Rust Software Engineer - Remote
We think Rust is the best language for new systems software! Our core platform is all in Rust, from microservices in our distributed control plane to our high-performance data services. Everything we do is built on Linux and we’re rethinking how control and data planes are built on modern programmable kernels using eBPF, Wireguard, io_uring, and other such features. We think using these from Rust gives us the best balance of performance and safety for our customers. And it’s a lot of fun too!

You’ll love this job if

  • You love Rust!
  • You’ve beaten your head against web infrastructure and distributed systems and won!
  • You know how to balance rapid development with long-term code maintainability and supportability.
  • Your range of experience with frontend, backend, machine learning, or full-stack is one of your superpowers.
  • You’re an experienced debugger unfazed by the firefighting needed when production environments are in flames.
  • You’re detail-oriented and and passionate about creating an awesome user experience.
  • You’re comfortable with a variety of modern software frameworks and learn new tools as a matter of course or just for fun.
  • You put EQ above ego and focus on team success helping your team members through code reviews.
  • Distributed Systems Engineer - Remote

If you enjoy distributed systems then you’re going to love this. We have tightly-coupled cluster systems where low-latency strong semantics are vital, as well as worldwide eventually-consistent systems where nodes are hundreds of milliseconds apart.

You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping our service development and reliability, building shared infrastructure used by the whole organization, and spreading best practices throughout our engineering team. You’re motivated by high-impact projects, and enjoy digging deep into fundamentally challenging engineering problems. While time is an illusion, you enjoy debating the merits of it as an abstraction.

    You’ll love this job if

  • You understand how the internet works at a protocol level, including the differences between specs, and what ends up happening on the internet.
  • Your skill and love of debugging to make the system work in all cases is one of your superpowers.
  • You understand security issues and responsibilities.
  • You have deep Unix knowledge, and patches to Operating Systems is another of your superpowers.
  • You love designing and building APIs.
  • You wield multiple programming languages with confidence, including Rust and Python.
  • You put EQ above ego and focus on team success and growth.

  • Serverless Container Engineer - Remote

You know serverless is how all cloud native applications will be built and you want to create the next generation of global serverless container systems for these modern workloads. We think there’s a lot of fun work to do especially for stateful and compute-intensive workloads like machine learning. Whether you’re a long-time serverless infrastructure developer, or just making the transition, we think you’ll enjoy working on our stack and contributing to open source communities as well as amazing our customers.

    You’ll love this job if

  • You’ve fearlessly taken on task orchestration systems such as (but not limited to) Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, Nomad.
  • You’re familiar with the underpinnings of container technology such as cgroups, namespaces and ptrace.
  • You understand networks at a fundamental level (routing, subnets etc.).
  • You love digging into algorithms, data structures, and software design.
  • As a bonus you might have deep expertise in:
    – Linux/UNIX
    – Custom scheduling and multi-service coordination with Hashicorp’s Nomad and Consul

  • You put EQ above ego and focus on team success and growth.

  • Performance Engineer - Remote

Performance engineering is core to what we do! Our users expect world-class efficiency with every millisecond of compute doing useful work for their applications. Your tools will be used by both your engineering colleagues and our customers. And by you, of course, as you dive deep on our systems to drive cost and performance optimizations, and evaluate technology choices to reduce resource consumption and request latency. Communication skills are vital, as you evangelize new performance techniques, both inside and outside the company.

    You’ll love this job if

  • You enjoy operating with high autonomy, focusing on the problems of highest leverage across our stack, and influencing new software and systems development.
  • You’re interested in and understand business / technical requirements and the overall business objectives of applications.
  • You’re obsessed with performance and fearless in your quest to ensure non-functional requirements for performance (such as throughput, latency, Memory/CPU usage, etc.) are met.
  • You’re unfazed at the prospect of debugging, troubleshooting, and working with the development engineering team to resolve and correct performance or scalability issues.
  • You’re keen to independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end. Sometimes you even think it’s fun.
  • You put EQ above ego and focus on team success and growth.
  • Solutions Engineer - Remote

As a solutions engineer at Seaplane, you are responsible for designing and building custom solutions using Seaplane technology that fit customer needs and solve their problems.

You have a good understanding of systems design (minimum 2 years of experience), including but not limited to service design, APIs, database, data storage, data models, cloud architecture, scaling, DNS, and Anycast Routing. You know how to use those and other engineering skills to bring projects to completion successfully. Besides engineering skills, you have a healthy appetite for customer interaction and enjoy talking with other engineers to help them uncover and solve their problems.

    • You know everything about system design, and you know how to apply it to hard-to-solve problems.
